Campus Dean Barbara Schuster, Chair of the American College of Physicians Foundation Board of Trustees, served as Co-Chair of the Foundation's Initiative on Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke Prevention. University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr., Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz and University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams will address reporters at 3 p.m. on Aug. 9, the inaugural day of classes at the campus of the GRU/UGA Medical Partnership. The news conference, which will be held in the conference room of the Interim Medical Partnership Building at 279 Williams Street in Athens, will be followed by a 4 p.m. dedication ceremony outside the building that will include comments by Governor Sonny Perdue.

Key checkpoint reached in Health Sciences Campus process
The University of Georgia this week notified the Navy Supply Corps School Local Redevelopment Authority that it has obtained all the necessary funding and approval to meet the Medical School Program requirement. The certification indicates that UGA is ready to begin offering medical education instruction in its partnership with the Georgia Regents University, and marks a key checkpoint in the process of transferring the Navy Supply Corps School property to the University of Georgia for repurposing as the UGA Health Sciences Campus.

UGA Real Estate Foundation purchases building for medical teaching facility
The UGA Real Estate Foundation has purchased the historic Athens Factory, better known as the O’Malley’s building, to be renovated into a medical teaching facility. Purchase of the 36,845-square-foot building and approximately five acres on Williams Street at the North Oconee River closed Tuesday at a purchase price of $7,278,500.

Medical School Enrollment Boosted to Meet Doctor Shortage
