Any gap years? If so, what did you do?
I took 3 gap years!! I have a humanities background, so I took pre-reqs for medical school, studied for and took the MCAT, and then applied to school. I worked as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic for six months after undergrad graduation prior to figuring out what to do with my life, and then worked as an emergency room scribe until school started. I got to spend a lot of time with my family especially my grandparents, was in the weddings of four of my friends, and even was able to travel to the UK when not studying or at work!
Specialties of interest

Bio: tell us about yourself
Hi y’all! My name is Rachel Gerald and I am a third year medical student. I am thrilled to be in my clinical years because I am not sure what kind of doctor I want to be yet (except for a good one!!) and I’m hoping third year will help me narrow it down. So far in school I’ve been involved with Athens Free Clinic, student government, Medical Scholars Program, and the family medicine/OBGYN interest group. When I’m not studying, I love to cook for people, run or indoor cycle or play frisbee with my classmates, cross stitch, read, and spend time with friends and family. My favorite spots in Athens are the Botanical Gardens, Sandy Creek Park, and Memorial Park Zoo. Lastly, my current non-school goal is to run a half marathon and successfully propagate my golden pothos.
