SUMMARY:MOD Series 🧠 Non-invasive Neuromodulation utilizing repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)
DESCRIPTION:Students & Faculty please join us for the\nMechanisms of Disease\n2023-2024 SEMINAR SERIES\n \nPresented by\nCathrin M. Buetefisch\, MD\, PhD \n \nDirector\, Deep Brains Stimulation Clinic\nProfessor\, Departments of Neurology\, Rehabilitation Medicine & Radiology\nEmory University\, School of Medicine  \nLocation:HSC Russell Hall\, Room 228 \n\nPersonal Statement: \nDr. Buetefisch obtained her Medical Degree from Free University of Berlin in Germany in 1991. She then followed with her Doctor of Philosophy degree (Habilitation\, German equivalent to PhD)\, from the Department of Neurology at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf in Germany in 2004. \nHer postgraduate training included a residency in the Department of Neurological Rehabilitation at Free University of Berlin in Germany\, Prof Karl-Heinz Mauritz\, from 1991-1993. Her internship in the Department of Medicine at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling\, WV\, Dr. Jeffrey Schultz\, was achieved between 1993-1994. Shortly after\, she completed a residency in the Department of Neurology at West Virginia University in Morgantown\, WV\, Prof. Lud Gutmann\, 1994-1997. Dr. Buetefisch followed the next two years with a fellowship at the Human Motor Control Section\, National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda\, MD\, Drs. Leonardo Cohen and Mark Hallett\, 1997-1999. She then became a research fellow\, Neurologic Therapeutic Center & Department of Neurology at Heinrich-Heine University in Duesseldorf\, Germany\, Profs. Ruediger Seitz and Volker Hoemberg\, from 2000-2002. \nDr. Buetefisch’s research is focused on improving the understanding of mechanisms underlying motor system plasticity and developing means to modulate plasticity with the clinical translational aspect of formulating rehabilitation strategies to improve motor function in neurological patients. At Emory University Dr. Buetefisch was given the privilege to direct the Deep Brain Stimulation clinic which is a subspecialty in the movement disorder clinic. She is also participating in an inpatient neurorehabilitation consult service. Her professional service includes an editorial position for Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair\, the official journal of the American Society for Neurorehabilitation (ASNR)\, and membership on the Board of Directors of ASNR. Dr. Buetefisch reviews for the NIH study section ANIE and scientific journals. Whilst maintaining extraordinarily active academic and service roles\, she is also committed to teaching and mentoring of students and residents in basic science\, clinical science and clinical neurology at the undergraduate\, graduate\, post- graduate and professional level. \n
