Hockley named as AU/UGA Medical Partnership Chair of Clinical Sciences

Nancy Moran Hockley, MD, FACS, has been named Chair of Clinical Sciences at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at AU’s Medical College of Georgia.

Prior to accepting her position at the Medical Partnership, Hockley served as the Regional Director of Clinical Clerkships and a lecturer in Pharmacology at Indiana University School of Medicine for five years.  She also served as a Physician Advisor at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana for six years.

As Chair of Clinical Sciences, Hockley is responsible for the continuing development and maintenance of all the clinical sites for the clinical education of the medical students on the Medical Partnership campus.  She will work with multiple hospitals and medical practices throughout northeast Georgia and collaborate with the chairs of the clinical departments at MCG’s main campus in Augusta, as well as its clinical campus leadership in Albany, Savannah, and Rome.

“Dr. Hockley is well-suited to grow and expand the clinical education program for the Medical Partnership students,” said Barbara L. Schuster, campus dean of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership.  “Given her dedication to educating the next generation of physicians and her leadership experience, I am delighted to have Dr. Hockley join the senior leadership team at the Medical Partnership.”

“She brings great experience in private practice as well as academic medicine to the essential role of ensuring that our students get exceptional clinical experience,” said MCG Dean, Dr. Peter F. Buckley.

UGA Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Pamela Whitten added that Hockley “will play an important role in addressing the state’s shortage of physicians by strengthening the connections between the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and hospitals and practices throughout the region.”

Hockley studied Pharmacy at Purdue University before receiving her Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1984.  She pursued an internship in General Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center and completed her residency in Urology in 1990 at Indiana University Medical Center.

“I am thrilled to be joining the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and look forward to working with our students, faculty, and clinicians,” said Dr. Hockley.  “It is an exciting time to be a part of medical education in northeast Georgia as we work to implement innovative clinical education for third and fourth year medical students.”
