Illustrating to our students the importance of giving back to our communities is one of our top priorities. Below is a small sampling of the wide variety of community service activities the Medical Partnership provides.
The Athens Free Clinic is a free and low-cost primary health care clinic, with services delivered to area communities with barriers to accessing health care. This clinic was established in 2018 and is operated by AU/UGA Medical Partnership physician faculty, students and residents. Target populations include medically underserved and marginalized communities in the Athens-Clarke county area and surrounding counties. The goal is to reach uninsured and underinsured patients who have difficulty accessing primary and continuity in medical care in part due to transportation barriers. The Athens Free Clinic is delivering primary care for all ages and genders with acute and chronic conditions, as well as providing screening and prevention services.

The Clarke Middle Health Center is a partnership with Clarke County School District and the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership’s Athens Free Clinic. Medical Partnership faculty and students provide primary care to patients and work alongside staff, physicians, and students from the UGA School of Law, UGA’s Mary Frances Early College of Education, the ASPIRE Clinic at the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the Georgia Department of Public Health. The center is free to patients and serves students, staff, and families of the Clarke County School District. Opened in September 2022, the clinic offers urgent care for acute illnesses, chronic disease management preventative services, wellness exams, sports physicals, and behavioral and mental health.
The center saw 502 visits during the nine month pilot period.

Each camp is a week long and features sessions taught by Medical Partnership students and faculty. Campers get to participate in dissections, build blood cells through arts and crafts, and get a firsthand look into the world of medicine. Students leave the camp with the firm knowledge that they can become doctors.

Medical students set up stations for height and weight checks, blood pressure monitoring, and vision screenings, then work with Medical Partnership faculty members and volunteer residents from Piedmont Athens Regional and the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Mary’s to provide the exam.
