Health Sciences Campus

The Augusta University / University of Georgia Medical Partnership is located on the UGA Health Sciences Campus in Athens. The majority of classes are held in Russell Hall, which was built in 1974. The nearly 63,000 square-foot building includes classrooms, rooms for small group and clinical skills teaching, a lab for gross anatomy, pathology and histology, a medical library, and faculty offices. The Medical Partnership Administration is housed in Winnie Davis Hall, which was built in 1902.

In 2011, the University of Georgia acquired the former U.S. Navy Supply Corps School on the medical corridor of Prince Avenue near downtown Athens. The campus served as the site for the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School from 1953 until 2005, when a series of federally mandated base closures paved the way for UGA to convert the historic site into the UGA Health Sciences Campus. The 56-acre Health Sciences Campus has an extensive landscaped green space, more than 400 trees and several historic buildings.

From 1891 to 1932, the campus served as the State Normal School, Georgia’s first teachers’ college and the historical center of what is now known as Athens’ Normaltown district. The oldest surviving buildings were built during this period, including the Carnegie Library Learning Center (CLLC). Built in 1910 with a grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, the building now serves as a student center and digital library.

The University of Georgia Health Sciences Campus also hosts UGA’s College of Public Health.
