Medical Partnership Welcomes Class of 2026
The Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership recently welcomed 60 new Medical College of Georgia students to the Athens campus. The Class of 2026 is the second class of 60 to begin as part of the Medical Partnership’s expansion.
The Class of 2026 is rich in diversity, with students representing an impressive array of cultural backgrounds. The group is split with 31 females and 29 males. Fifty-nine of the 60 students are Georgia residents— 31 come to us from Northwest Georgia, 21 hail from Northeast Georgia, and the remaining Georgia residents come from the southern part of the state or Atlanta metro.
UGA is the most represented college with 20 of the new students holding an undergraduate degree from the university. Georgia Tech (11), Emory (3), Mercer (3), Georgia Southern (1), Kennesaw (1), and Augusta University (1) were the other in state institutions represented. Twenty in the class got their education out of the state.
While keeping up with studies and excelling in the classroom are important, they also know a school-life balance is key. The Class of 2026’s hobbies are just as unique as their backgrounds: they enjoy hiking, cooking, dancing, traveling, reading, and playing sports.
The Class of 2026 took part in orientation during the week of July 25. Orientation allows students to learn what to expect from the Medical Partnership campus—they got a look at the curriculum, diversity and inclusion, wellbeing initiatives, and they also got to meet faculty, staff, and fellow students at daily luncheons. They also had times to let loose with field day, a cookout, and the annual Dean’s Reception.
The entire MCG 2026 class from both campuses is just as impressive as Athens—with over 3,500 applications, only 264 were admitted. There are 140 females and 124 males, and they come from 53 different colleges and universities. The overall GPA of the class is 3.8 with an average MCAT score of 513.
These distinguished and diverse students exemplify the future of healthcare in Georgia, and they are ready to face the upcoming challenges of medical school. Our Class of 2026 had their first day of classes on August 1, and we at the Medical Partnership ardently anticipate what they will accomplish during their first year at the Athens campus.
