Shah elected to national AMWA committee

Woman in a white coat.Nidhi Shah, a second-year student at the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, has been named treasurer-elect for the Medical Student Executive Committee of the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA).

Shah applied for the role last year and was elected by AMWA’s voting members. With this new role, Shah assists with maintaining the AMWA budget and reimbursing travel expenses. She also serves on the AMWA student executive committee and awards committee.

“Stepping into this role is incredibly exciting,” said Shah. “Moving from a local chapter to the national board feels like a significant next step. It’s a chance to scale up the mission of empowering women. I’m really looking forward to expanding my reach beyond our campus and building those meaningful connections that can benefit students across the country.”

Shah joined AMWA during her M1 year, looking for a community rooted in collaboration and purpose, but she quickly realized it was more than that.

“It’s a space where women truly uplift one another, sharing their experiences with a level of transparency that pushes everyone to grow. I’m very passionate about gender equity, including seeing more women in leadership and ensuring we have an equal seat at the table,” she said. “Having seen how much a strong mentor or a supportive connection can change a student’s confidence, I’m committed to helping build those safe spaces where we can actually shape the future of healthcare together.”

Shah’s two-year term began in March at AMWA’s annual meeting. She will serve one year as treasurer-elect and a second year as treasurer.
