Current bio. What are you up to?
Amelita Woodruff is a native of Atlanta, GA. After completing her B.S. in Sports Medicine at Howard University in Washington, D.C., she went on to finish medical school at the University of GA/Medical College of Georgia in Athens, GA. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL followed by a Hospital Internal Medicine Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She now works as a Hospitalist at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD where she serves as Director of DEI and Director of Recruitment for the Division of Hospital Medicine. She is also a pro-bono forensic medical evaluator and was recently named Associate Medical Director of the Hopkins HEAL Refugee Health and Asylum Collaborative, which provides trauma-informed, affirming care and supportive services to immigrant survivors of torture and trauma, an area near and dear to her heart as the daughter of a Panamanian immigrant. She has also developed a curriculum surrounding Trauma Informed Care practices. Her current research is focused on the care of hospitalized ICE detainees and incarcerated patients – and she has been invited to speak nationally on this topic, other areas of focus include implicit bias & microaggressions training, improving health disparities of disadvantaged populations, and the improvement of the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and traveling.
