Any gap years? If so, what did you do?
I took three gap years before coming to medical school. During that time, I worked as a medical assistant in general surgery at Northside Hospital, internal medicine and gastroenterology. I also served as a volunteer staff member for my college campus ministry and took a few mission trips, most notably to Fukuoka, Japan. Also, perhaps the most meaningful experience, I enjoyed serving my church as a Sunday School Teacher! I also worked as a professional tutor, helping high school students with AP science courses, English, and college preparation. During my gap years, I also enjoyed time traveling with friends and families to explore around the U.S., Canada and around the world!
Specialties of Interest
Cardiothoracic Surgery, Hepatobiliary-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery, Trauma Surgery and Global Health
Bio: tell us about yourself
Hello! Nice to meet you! I’m Andrew Kim and I am currently an M2 at the Medical Partnership and I am super excited to share with you a little about me!
Beyond medicine and being a great physician, I strongly desire to be first and foremost a strong and faithful Christian. My Christian faith is very important to me and has continuously molded and inspired me to be the person I am today. It is the reason I chose to pursue medicine and it has given me a lifelong dream of becoming a medical missionary with the goal of glorifying God through medicine. One thing that I am very passionate about is outreach and helping those in need. With this passion in mind as well as my interest in the heart, I chose to pursue a future career in Cardiothoracic Surgery as there is both a critical need both at home and globally for both surgeons and surgical care. I believe that global surgical outreach through medical missions is the perfect intersection between my Christian faith and professional interests as a physician and I am excited for the what the future holds!
In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, especially with friends and family and my church as well as having the opportunity to meet new people! I also have many hobbies such as reading, studying history and playing sports such as tennis, golf, hiking, cycling! Thank you for your time reading and I want to leave you with this encouragement which is one of my favorite Bible verses:
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
