I took 1 gap year, during which I worked as a clinical research coordinator in the Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at UGA. My role included participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis for multiple studies, including a clinical trial. I also took advantage of the extra free time to start new hobbies such as dance trapeze. The summer before starting medical school, I had the opportunity to go on a 6 week trip around Europe!

Bio: tell us about yourself
Hi! I’m Shelby Markeles, and I’ve called Athens home since I moved here in 2018. During undergrad, I stayed busy as a member of the competition cheerleading team, working as a peer learning assistant, and attending nearly every home football game! At the partnership, I’m involved in the Psychiatry Interest Group, Medical Students for Choice, and the PAL tutoring program. When I’m not in class, I enjoy taking Pure Barre or dance trapeze classes, hiking, scuba diving, or spending time with my two dogs.
