Physicians work within a complex business environment that must balance human needs with financial resources and operational efficiency.

Those who pursue advanced training through an MBA degree are able to confidently understand the administrative affairs of large health organizations, effectively manage budgets and personnel, and are well-equipped to start and run an individual practice.

Is an MBA right for you?

You should consider combining a graduate business degree with an MD if:

  • You want to gain a comprehensive understanding of business management principles.
  • You hope to manage a department or group of professionals during your career.
  • You wish to establish your own practice or health care facility.

When and how can I get an MBA?

The MD / MBA option for Augusta University medical students is a five-year program.

Students pursue the MBA program at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business during a one-year break from the usual medical school curriculum.  Students engage in these studies after the third-year clinical clerkships when they have gained a greater perspective on how an MBA might apply to their clinical careers.

How do I apply?

Students submit an application directly to the MBA Program at the Terry College of Business during the fall term in the year before they plan to begin their MBA coursework. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) will be accepted in place of the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). Application deadlines are published on the MBA Website. We recommend that interested students speak with their AU advisor prior to applying to ensure that their expectations and goals are compatible with the MD-MBA option.
