McClowry Joins Medical Partnership as Campus Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion
Robert McClowry, MD, AAHIVS, began his role of Campus Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion at the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership on Monday, September 27.
McClowry joined the Medical Partnership from the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, Michigan where he served as the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and Assistant Dean for Career Advisor Programming and Student Advisement.
“Dr. McClowry is passionate about supporting students and on all issues regarding diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Campus Dean Dr. Shelley Nuss, “He will bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to our campus. He is an outstanding communicator and has an outgoing personality that is infectious to all.”
McClowry will bring years of experience in diversity and inclusion to this role at the Partnership. He has served as a physician at the Mazzoni Center Family and Community Medicine- LGBTQ+ Health and Well-Being, facilitated faculty training on racism and bias, taught courses on competent primary care for the LGBTQ+ community, and introduced a diversity and inclusion course to M1 Orientation.
He has taught medical students and residents in family medicine throughout his career and will also hold the title of Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Partnership.
Campus Associate Dean for Student and Multicultural Affairs Dr. John Francis said McClowry was the front runner after a nationwide search to fill the role.
“He is highly intelligent, friendly, likable and well qualified to serve as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion,” said Francis. “His warm personality and wealth of knowledge as a former chief resident who has most recently served as both an Assistant Dean for Career Advisor Programing /Student Advisement and as an Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion have equipped him to be a competent and supportive resource for our students on the AU/UGA Medical Partnership campus. We are blessed to have him join our faculty!”
McClowry earned a BS in physiology from Michigan State University- Lyman Briggs College and Honors College before earning his MD from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then went on to complete his residency in Family and Community Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he also served as chief resident.
