Dr. Wooten is involved in many aspects of the curriculum at the School of Medicine. She is a clinical sciences facilitator in Small Group Learning (SGL) for Year 1 (Y1) and Year 2 (Y2) students. She develops and teaches many Large Group sessions, as well as Self-Paced Activities (SPAs) across the Y2 curriculum, particularly in Pathology and the Y2 Hematology/Oncology Module. She is a faculty preceptor for Y1 Clinical Skills and facilitates Patient-Centered Learning (PCL) activities for third-year students rotating on their internal medicine clerkship. She participates in Y1/Y2 Simulations and clinical assessments for third- and fourth-year medical students. She also serves as a general career advisor for medical students and provides subspecialty career advising for those interested in Pathology, Transfusion Medicine, and Hematology/Oncology. She is the faculty advisor for the Hematology, Oncology, and Transfusion Medicine student interest group, as well as organizes semi-annual blood drives on campus.
Dr. Wooten is from Walker County, Georgia near Chattanooga, TN and attended Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA where she graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biology. She received her MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine – Tuscaloosa Branch Campus and pursued subspecialty training in Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She is board-certified from the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology, and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. She has a rich background in both academic teaching and clinical practice. Prior to this role, Dr. Wooten served as a Regional Medical Director for the American Red Cross, overseeing blood services operations across multiple regions. She has received multiple awards for outstanding teaching and research, including the Exemplary Teaching Award from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.
