The Medical Partnership holds first Grand Rounds with the U.S. Army at St. Mary’s

The AU/UGA Medical Partnership Graduate Medical Education Office held its first Grand Rounds event for healthcare professionals on February 29, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital. The event, a joint effort between the Medical Partnership and the U.S. Army included a presentation on simulation training by Captain Dr. Pamela Tipler, MD, Chief of Inpatient Services at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Augusta.

Grand Rounds are a series of didactic sessions that serve as an important teaching tool in medical education and patient care helping medical staff, physicians, residents, students, faculty and other healthcare professionals keep up to date with evolving changes in practice, new therapies, management strategies or other discoveries.  They not only serve as a means of continuing medical education, at their most effective, Grand Rounds introduce new concepts and ideas that, while relevant to everyday practice, also shape the future of medical professions.  Grand Rounds have the potential to profoundly change healthcare in meaningful and significant ways.

The military branches of the United States of America have a long tradition of high quality medical education.  Leaders in both the development of new educational methods and cutting edge health care, military-trained physicians have cared for U.S. Presidents and other world leaders while training a new generation of doctors.  We are honored and proud to have had the opportunity to partner with the Army and allow our residents and faculty to benefit from the Army’s long history of excellence and expertise in medical education and healthcare delivery.
