VanLeuven Named to MCG Faculty Senate

Dr. Ariel VanLeuven, assistant professor of cellular biology and anatomy at the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, has been named to the Medical College of Georgia’s (MCG) Faculty Senate Executive Committee.

MCG’s Faculty Senate members serve as advisors to the dean and provide a means for faculty participation and achievement of long-term goals of the college.

Dr. Michelle Nuss, dean of the Medical Partnership, submitted VanLeuven’s name for the Faculty Senate in January. All MCG faculty members then voted to determine who would serve on the committee, and those who received the most votes were officially announced in June.

VanLeuven said she is looking forward to representing the Athens campus and providing insight on how the campus operates since it is currently the only four-year regional campus of MCG and also does not take part in the 3+ curriculum like the Augusta campus.

“I am very much looking forward to representing the Medical Partnership!” said VanLeuven. “My primary goal is to ensure that the Athens campus has appropriate representation in our faculty governing body, and I look forward to being an active member and ensuring that our campus remains in the loop on the issues being discussed.”

VanLeuven’s two-year term will begin July 1.
