Ward elected to internal medicine advisory council

Abby Ward, MEd, has been appointed to the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) Program Administrators Advisory Council. Ward, the lead program coordinator for the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership’s Internal Medicine Residency Program, began her three-year term on July 1.

The council was established to promote excellence in internal medicine residency education and training and works to represent and advocate for the program administrator constituency within the organization.

Ward said she wanted to serve on the council to mentor others.

“I remember starting as a new coordinator with no prior graduate medical education (GME) experience and the challenge I felt navigating my new professional landscape. Over the years, I have served as a mentor to other new coordinators in institutions across the nation. I see this as my opportunity to give back on a broader scale to a community that assisted me in my professional growth and provided so much support in the earlier years,” she said.

Over her three-year term, Ward will be supporting employees in GME programs with a mission to foster collaboration, communication, and teamwork among program directors, faculty, and administrators. The council provides a platform for sharing best practices, addressing program management challenges, and enhancing the effectiveness of residency program administration. Through these efforts, the council strives to support the professional development, satisfaction, and long-term retention of program administrators.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity and look forward to proudly representing the Medical Partnership,” said Ward.
