Fifth Annual STaR Conference

Sponsored by Augusta University and the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, the fifth annual Southern Translational Education and Research (STaR) Conference was held on September 25 and 26 at the Augusta Marriott Hotel.

Each year the conference focuses on a different topic, and the 2014 focus was “Translating Obesity Research from Bench to Bedside.”  The conference included a wide range of state-of-the-art topics in clinical and translational science and approximately 60 poster presentations.  An important part of the conference was the Young Investigator Research Competition.  The posters were judged by the two keynote speakers and conference committee members, and the top 3 or 4 in each category were invited to give oral presentations.

Speakers at this year’s event included Eric Ravussin, Ph.D., Boyd Professor and Nikhil Dhurandhar, Ph.D., John Henry Hernandez Endowed Professor in Health Promotion, Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
