Bio: tell us about yourself
I am a third year medical student at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership with a degree from UGA in Exercise and Sport Science. At the moment, I am interested in pursuing anesthesiology after doing research in Cardiac Anesthesia at Emory. Aside from academics, my interests and hobbies include watching and playing sports, playing video games, and traveling. After being elected to our Student Government’s first Alumni Development Chair positions, my cochair Yelissa and I began striving to create a close collaborative relationship with our Medical Partnership alumni. Together with our alumni, we plan to create a network of Partnership alumni for students to have as a resource for questions about specialties, practice, and other information pertaining to our future careers as physicians.

Any gap years? If so, what did you do?
I took 1 gap year which I am extremely thankful for because I had the opportunity to pursue some amazing opportunities! In my gap year, I interned at the City of Tucker, my hometown, as a Public Health and Sustainability Intern, where I aided in the local COVID-19 response by working with the Mayor to provide data analysis and updates to the City as well as by working with vulnerable population groups to minimize infection rates. Throughout the year, I also had the opportunity to give a TEDx talk at TEDx Georgia Tech titled “Prescribing Sustainability as a Preventative Measure” in which I advocated for the incorporation of environmental health and sustainability into medicine in both prevention and treatment (Would love for you to give it a listen :)). Lastly, I enrolled in a 1 year Islamic Studies program where I studied subjects like Arabic, Theology, Philosophy, and Legal Theory to name a few. Overall, it was a super formative year and I’m so glad that I was able to do it!

Specialties of Interest
Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery

I’m super passionate about Environmental Health Science and Sustainability and exploring how they can be incorporated into healthcare. I currently serve as one of the Alumni Ambassadors for the class of 2025 and I’m looking forward to starting an Environmental Medicine Interest group later this year. My hobbies include soccer, tennis, badminton, reading, trying new foods, and traveling. If you need me, you can find me at Ahi Hibachi with a Poke bowl 😉

Any gap years? If so, what did you do?
I had two gap years where I split my time between CHOA Rehabilitation center, working with children in physical and occupational therapy, and the Emory Brain Health Center assisting in various initiatives to improve the patient care experience. In that time I also studied and sat for my MCAT exam, dedicated some time to my hobbies and worked as a server, bartender, and catering specialist for two different restaurants.

Specialties of Interest
Surgery and Emergency Medicine

I was born in New Jersey but raised in metro-Atlanta. I was an avid dancer in my younger years and have always enjoyed expressing creativity through performance . I’ve even tried aerial silks and trapeze! I decided on a career in medicine during undergrad after experiencing the incredible impact that physicians can have on an individual and a community. I’m excited to work with alumni from AU/UGA Medical Partnership and foster a community of guidance, mentorship, and engagement among past, present and future Partnership students!

Hi! My name is Kyra Urquhart-Foster, and I’m an M2 at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgia State University in May of 2021 with my bachelor’s degree in chemistry. I am an Alumni Ambassador for the Class of 2025 Student Government Organization and serve on the Cancer Medicine Interest Group board as the M1 Representative. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, being outdoors (especially when the weather is nice!), attending local car shows, and taking my dog, Dallas, on lots of adventures!
